What is Bleed in Printing

Including bleed in your files is crucial, especially for full-color backgrounds or images that extend to the edge of the paper. Bleed is the area outside the final trim size of your printed piece. Bleed ensures that when the document is trimmed (cut) to its final size, there are no white borders; this prevents any unintended white edges. Bleed is the printing that extends off the edge(s) of a printed piece to allow room for cutting. For any printed elements, a bleed of 1/8 inch (0.125 inches) must be added to extend beyond the trimmable edge of the piece.  

Smudges on Printed Pages

Smears, black lines, dots and smudges on printed paper are caused by dirt, dust, paper clips, or toner residue accumulated on the printing machines rollers or transfer belts. CMYK is the standard for printing because it represents the four ink colors used in the printing process. The RGB is an additive color model that adds the primary colors of light (red, green and blue) together in various ways to reproduce a broad array of colors. RGB (Red, Green, Blue) is used for digital displays, like computer monitors and cameras.
